Executive Board Position Descriptions
Executive Director
The Executive Director will preside over the Alumni Association Executive Board. This position should always be filled by one person at a time, never more. S/he should be active in the community. S/he will attend all special functions held by the Alumni Association. When unable to attend, s/he will appoint a proxy to attend in her/his place.
Associate Director
The Associate Director should be well-organized and willing to communicate with all Board members on a regular basis. S/he should attend all special events held by the Alumni Association. S/he will actively seek nominees for open Board positions.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for maintaining NMHSAA's records. The Secretary should have the capacity to summarize accurately, clearly, and concisely the substantive essence of lengthy, often wide-ranging Board deliberations. A working knowledge of parliamentary rules and procedures is expected.
Director of Finances
The Director of Finances is the chief financial officer of NMHSAA. S/he MUST have extensive financial background and experience. S/he analyses current and proposed budgets for the NMHSAA Executive Board and provides guidance to the Board on priorities for spending. In preparing NMHSAA budgets, the Director of Finances reviews current and proposed allocations and presents these data to the Executive Board in order to establish priorities for spending.
The Director will present a brief financial report at each NMHSAA Executive Board meeting. S/he is assisted by NMHSAA's Secretary. The Financial Director also monitors NMHSAA's endowment and revolving funds and reports on their status annually to the Board.
Legal Advisor
The position of Legal Advisor can be filled by more than one person. Anyone serving this role MUST be a currently North Carolina licensed attorney. S/he will offer advisement on all legal matters, including but not limited to:
Director of Fund-Raising
The Director of Fund-Raising should be well-organized and active in the community. S/he is responsible for overseeing all fund-raising efforts, both major and minor, on the part of the committee. S/he should work closely with the Director of Finances and the Legal Advisor(s) before any and all fund-raising events. S/he will attend all fund-raising events as the representative for NMHSAA.
Director of Scholarships
The Director of Scholarships should be an extremely fair-minded person. S/he should consider all applicants for scholarships without prejudice or pre-determination. S/he should work with the Publicity Director to appropriately advertise scholarship programs.
Director of Classes
The Director of Classes should be active in the community. S/he should be willing to contact alumni and establish relationships with at least one member from each graduating class. S/he will work closely with the Search Director and the Publications Director.
Director of Publications
The Director of Publications should have a working knowledge of both web and print publications. S/he should have strong writing and editing skills. S/he should be able to work closely with the Director of Classes, Class Representatives, the Historian, and the Secretary to get all necessary materials online.
Director of Classmates Searches
The Director of Classmate Searches should be extremely organized and devoted to finding classmates. This requires emailing, mailing, and calling to follow leads to find people. S/he should form a strong committee of classmates s/he is willing to train to find verified information. S/he should be able to work closely with the Director of Classes, Class Representatives, and the Publications Director.
Director of College Mentoring
The Director of College Mentoring should be good with people. S/he should be willing to coordinate large numbers of people. S/he should be well-organized and interested in supporting graduating North Students. S/he should maintain a relationship with current North Mecklenburg College Counselors.
Director of Career Counseling
The Director of Career Counseling should be an active member of the Mecklenburg Community. S/he should be friendly and able to establish relationships with local businesses. S/he should maintain relationships with current North Meck Counselors.
Director of Strategic Planning
The Director of Strategic Planning should serve a term no less than four (4) years. S/he should be willing to work with all Board Members to outline long-term goals.
Historian
The Historian should be well-organized and meticulous. S/he should work with current North Meck staff to record old annuals and newspapers. S/he should work with the Classmates Search Director as well as the Class Director to recover older materials of interest from classmates.
Director of Publicity
The Director of Publicity should maintain an active relationship with local newspapers and other media outlets. S/he should be adept at writing press releases.
Director of Volunteers
The Director of Volunteers should work closely with the Director of Fundraising to organize volunteers. S/he should encourage current North Meck students to volunteer.
